Volunteer training is mandatory for all prospective volunteers. The training consists of two parts – interactive classroom and online training, and “hands-on” training. Classroom training (15-30 hours) covers a broad range of domestic violence related issues.

Further training in the specific area in which the volunteer will be working is required to gain a stronger understanding. Hands-on training, which takes 4 – 8 hours, is a time when the volunteer works in their position with supportive supervision. Community members interested in learning more about domestic violence and Safe Shelter are welcome to attend dates and topics of their choosing.
