What We Do: Project Safeguard (PSG) supports survivors of gender-based violence on their journey to increase safety for themselves and their families. We do this by providing non-attorney legal advocacy and attorney services which may include civil protection orders, divorce and custody cases, and/or immigration relief.
The Opportunity: The Executive Director of Project Safeguard will guide the organization into its next chapter by providing leadership, management, and planning for the agency. Our Executive Director is leaving after five years with the agency, having grown and stabilized our programs and created a healthy and supportive organizational culture, and we are seeking her successor.
The Project Safeguard team is dedicated to supporting survivors of gender-based violence (including, but not limited to, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking) and maintaining a strong, stable organization. Our ideal candidate will advance our mission while maintaining our valued workplace culture of support, trust, self-care and collaboration.
The Executive Director reports directly to Project Safeguard’s Board of Directors and works closely with staff members and the Board to fulfill our mission. The Executive Director has overall responsibility for approximately 15 dedicated staff members and a $1.3 million annual budget.
What You Will Do:
Management and Leadership
Build upon and implement effective and efficient processes, systems, and infrastructure to maximize resources and support staff.
Attract, recruit, select, develop, motivate, retain, and reward a diverse high-quality staff; effectively lead them to fulfill Project Safeguard’s priorities and mission.
Maintain a positive, supportive organizational culture that values Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and recognizes success, while maintaining a strong self-care focus.
Supervise members of the organization’s Leadership Team, including the Development Director, Finance Director, Legal Director, and Legal Advocacy Program Director.
With the Leadership Team, manage and oversee all operations within the organization; ensure all programs are well-functioning and in alignment with Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan, mission and goals.
Provide information and recommendations to the Board for setting or revising Project Safeguard’s goals and objectives, policies, strategic priorities; attend and participate in monthly Board meetings; provide a monthly report to the Board
Assist in Board recruitment and development activities; ensure effective communication between staff and Directors.
Financial Stability and Growth
Cultivate key relationships with community partners and donors to expand Project Safeguard’s donor base and increase individual and corporate giving.
With the Finance Director, oversee financial management of the agency, including all required financial reporting.
With the Development Director, assist in the strategic development of funding streams, and ensure all funding requirements and grant and financial reporting deadlines are adhered to.
With the Development and Finance Directors, oversee the development and implementation of the annual operating budget; ensure it is funded through appropriate channels and established goals are met.
Community Engagement and Systems Change
Oversee public relations, community relations, and communication strategies to increase community awareness of the issue of gender-based violence and of available services.
With staff, create strong working relationships with many different constituencies and community members including community partners, donors, law enforcement agencies, legislative advocacy groups, elected officials, government agencies, corporations, foundations, and other nonprofits and partners.
Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in gender-based violence relevant to Project Safeguard and its mission.
Represent Project Safeguard (or delegate a member of the Leadership Team to) routinely and professionally with the media and at local, state, and national events and initiatives through attendance, public speaking, serving on committees, and training and information sessions.
What You Will Bring to Our Organization:

7 years minimum progressive and successful experience in leadership roles in nonprofit agencies. Experience working in a legal services setting is preferred. Lived and/or work experience in gender-based violence or victim services is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, social work, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the bachelor’s degree.
Demonstrated success with implementation of fundraising strategies, such as individual, foundation, grant, and corporate donor solicitation, planned giving programs, and/or other long-term fundraising activities.
Proven track record of strong financial management skills, including knowledge of fiduciary responsibilities of a nonprofit organization.
Strategic mindset with demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic priorities.
Ability to drive change, lead, and manage a growing organization.
Demonstrated leadership experience while working collaboratively with donors, community leaders, board members, staff, and volunteers.
Experience with personnel management and staff development showing responsiveness, compassion, and appreciation.
Demonstrated experience in leading a diverse organization.
Demonstrated success in effective Board management.
Persuasive written and verbal communication skills and ability to tailor communication style to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated success at cultivating strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and creating partnerships at all levels of an organization to achieve results.

What Project Safeguard offers:
The hiring salary range for this position has been established at $90,000 to $100,000 for a 36-hour work week. PSG offers excellent benefits, including parking OR public transit pass, 100% employer paid health, dental, vision and disability insurance, IRA with 3% employer match after one year of employment, flexible work schedule, and generous leave. This is a full-time position at 36 hours/week (PSG offices are closed Friday afternoons), with occasional fluctuations in schedule. We are committed to keeping the workload in alignment with the true hours worked.
COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:
Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required for all Project Safeguard staff. Medical or religious exemptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
LOCATION:
Rose Andom Center, 1330 Fox Street, Denver, CO 80204 with some travel throughout the Denver Metro Area. This position offers flexibility as to schedule and location (including the ability to work from home part of the time), as responsibilities allow. Applicants from outside Colorado are welcome, but must be willing to relocate to the Denver Metro area before beginning the position. Anticipated start date is January 2, 2024.
